Academic and Educational Master Plans

An Academic Master Plan is the central component of a comprehensive Educational Master Plan because this plan articulates the district’s educational philosophy which is the basis for the district’s distinct identity and vision for the future. From an analysis of relevant data that describe the district’s internal and external current status and future trends, the Academic Master Plan crafts institutional strategic directions as well as strategic directions specific to each academic and academic support program and service.

This Academic Master Plan will:

  • Use existing plans as the starting point;
  • Begin with a portfolio of comprehensive, current data describing the college district sites and communities;
  • Rely on that data portfolio to project the growth potential of new and existing academic and academic support programs and services;
  • Include the development of strategic directions at the institutional and program levels; and
  • Be developed with the full participation of the district’s faculty, staff, administrators, and students as well as community stakeholders.

Data is the seminal element in developing an Academic Master Plan. Both quantitative and qualitative data will serve to frame an objective, collaborative dialogue about new and existing academic and academic support programs and services. These data will include trends in the district’s service area population and employment; enrollment trends and projections; and program reviews of each of the district’s academic and academic support programs and services.

These data can lead to the integration of the Academic Master Plan and the Facilities Master Plan through an analysis of current space used by each program/service, the projection of future space needs, and the placement of academic and academic support programs at each of the district’s sites. Together, the Academic Master Plan and Facilities Master Plan form the District’s Educational Master Plan and will serve to clarify the institution’s identity and direction for the coming decade.
