Who We Are

Ed Buckley

PhotoED BUCKLEY'S thirty-four year community college career as an English teacher, faculty leader, and administrator culminated in a thirteen- year tenure as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Santa Rosa Community College.

During his tenure as chief instructional officer he was responsible for general supervision of all the instructional programs at two campuses and two major centers, including developmental programs, general education and transfer preparation, occupational programs and workforce training, and non-credit and community education programs. He supervised ten area deans and participated in the hiring and evaluation of all faculty (over 300 full time positions and over 1,000 adjunct positions).

Dr. Buckley spearheaded the college’s first strategic plan, organized a complete revision and reorganization of the college’s policy manual, and served for over a decade as one of the district’s two negotiators in bargaining with the faculty association. He was college liaison officer to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (WASC), and has served on twelve accreditation visiting teams. From August of 2010 until March of 2011 he served as the interim Director of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness at College of Marin, assisting with the development of the institutional planning process and administrative program review, among other projects. As a Brain Trust consultant he has assisted three colleges in the development of strategic and/or educational master plans. He has been active at the state level as a board member and president of the California Community College Chief Instructional Officers organization, whose online newsletter he now edits.

As a result of these experiences, Dr. Buckley understands the key issues associated with student assessment, curriculum development, instructional practices, and the measurement of student outcomes in the community college context. He also has a working knowledge of the sections of the California Administration Code Title 5 and the California Education Code pertaining to community colleges, and is well versed in the requirements and issues associated with WASC accreditation. He believes he is particularly well prepared to provide consulting assistance in curriculum planning, enrollment management, faculty development, institutional planning, policy development, faculty collective bargaining, and accreditation related projects.
