Ron Beeler

PhotoRON BEELER is the District Director of Facilities Planning and Construction for the North Orange County Community College District.  Ron worked for the District for the last 35 years and has responsibility for the District’s Building Program.  

Ron currently is a long-time member of the ACBO Facilities Task Force, represents the Community College System on the Division of the State Architect (DSA) Advisory Board.  Ron is one of the original and continuing contributors to the development of the Field Act Collaborative and Alternative Processes.   Ron also serves on the Community College/Investor Owned Utility Management Team (CC/IOU) and serves on the steering committee for Fusion. 

Ron prides himself with beginning his higher education in the Community College System with obtaining an AA Degree at Fullerton College.   Ron holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of La Verne in La Verne California.  

Donald B. Berz

PhotoDONALD BERZ served 42 years in California at a number of higher education institutions including UC Berkeley. He served as a professor of Political Science, an assistant dean, an executive dean of a college, a vice chancellor, an acting chancellor, and he retired in June of 2004 after 15 years as Executive Vice President of Chaffey College, a community college of 20,000 students.

Don was a founding and charter member of the Association of Community College Administrators (ACCCA), and a founding member of the Chief Instructional Officers of California Organization.  He served as its president and as a member of the Executive Board.  He received in 1997 ACCCA’s Administrative Excellence and Leadership Award along with numerous honors and recognition awards from such organizations as The American Association of Community Colleges, American Association of Higher Education, American Council on Education, and the California Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers Association.  He has chaired seven Accreditation Visiting Teams for the Western Association Accrediting Commission for Colleges and Universities. 

Donald received his higher education degrees in Political Science from the University of Colorado (Boulder), and from the University of California (Berkeley) in Political Science,

Dona  Boatright

PhotoAssociated with California community colleges since 1971, DONA BOATRIGHT worked in higher education as a faculty member and academic administrator, recently retiring after serving as Vice Chancellor for Educational Services for the California Community Colleges System Chancellor’s Office.

She served as a vocational dean and Vice President for Planning and Development at College of Marin before becoming Vice President of Academic Affairs there. Her first administrative position was as assistant dean at Chabot College. Prior to that she worked at Allan Hancock College for fifteen years, teaching Political Science and served as department chair and Senate president. Dona has also served as the president of the California Chief Instructional Officers Association.

Dona completed the coursework and exams for a doctorate in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, also from UC Berkeley. 

Michael Brandy

PhotoMIKE BRANDY’s long career in school district / community college finance spans over 34 years.  Recently retired as Vice Chancellor Business Services from the Foothill De Anza Community College District, Mike served as Manager of Fiscal Services in a multi-college district, Vice President Finance at a large college, and Vice Chancellor Business Services in two large multi-college districts.

In addition to the usual breadth of Vice Chancellor duties, Mike actively participated in one parcel tax election and two bond elections and oversaw the planning and implementation of $800 million in capital project improvements.  During his career, he served on various statewide finance committees, Executive Boards of Joint Powers Authorities, accreditation teams, the Executive Board of the Association of Chief Business Officials (ACBO) and is currently Director of the ACBO eight-day training institute held each year in Sacramento.

Mike holds an MBA from Golden State University, San Francisco and a BS Degree in Marketing from California State University, Northridge.

Ed Buckley

PhotoED BUCKLEY'S thirty-four year community college career as an English teacher, faculty leader, and administrator culminated in a thirteen- year tenure as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Santa Rosa Community College.

During his tenure as chief instructional officer he was responsible for general supervision of all the instructional programs at two campuses and two major centers, including developmental programs, general education and transfer preparation, occupational programs and workforce training, and non-credit and community education programs. He supervised ten area deans and participated in the hiring and evaluation of all faculty (over 300 full time positions and over 1,000 adjunct positions).

Dr. Buckley spearheaded the college’s first strategic plan, organized a complete revision and reorganization of the college’s policy manual, and served for over a decade as one of the district’s two negotiators in bargaining with the faculty association.  He was college liaison officer to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (WASC), and has served on twelve accreditation visiting teams. He has been active at the state level as a board member and president of the California Community College Chief Instructional Officers organization, whose online newsletter he now edits.

As a result of these experiences, Dr. Buckley understands the key issues associated with student assessment, curriculum development, instructional practices, and the measurement of student outcomes in the community college context. He also has a working knowledge of the sections of the California Administration Code Title 5 and the California Education Code pertaining to community colleges, and is well versed in the requirements and issues associated with WASC accreditation. He believes he is particularly well prepared to provide consulting assistance in curriculum planning, enrollment management, faculty development, institutional planning, policy development, faculty collective bargaining, and accreditation related projects.
