Marie Kane
MARIE KANE is the Superintendent/President Emeritus of Chaffey College, where she served for 6.5 years until August, 2007. Prior to her Chaffey experience, Dr. Kane was President of Phoenix College in Arizona for 8 years, Provost at Riverside Community College for 3 years, and Dean of Instruction for San Joaquin Delta College for 5 years.
Currently, in addition to her work with CCBT, Dr. Kane is a consultant with the Association of Community College Trustees, conducting CEO searches and retreats for boards of trustees. She holds a Ph.D. from Arizona State University in Mathematics Education, a M.S. from Lamar University and a B.A. from the University of Texas, both in Mathematics.
Dr. Kane has served as a board member for local, state and national organizations, including the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce, the California Community College CEO organization, and the National Institute for Leadership Development.
Shirley Kelly
SHIRLEY J. KELLY recently retired from the College of San Mateo, where she served as President and prior to that, Vice President of Instruction.
Shirley began her community college career in 1965 as a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at City College of San Francisco. After serving as the Department Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies and the President of the Academic Senate, she was selected as Assistant Dean of Instruction responsible for all of the physical science departments, engineering, math, and architecture. As Dean of Instruction responsible for additional curricular areas including ethnic studies and the biological sciences, Shirley’s college-wide responsibilities included all reports and allocations for vocational education, the computer catalog of courses, and load studies. In 1985, she was appointed as Vice President of Instruction at CCSF, a position she held until 1991, when she became Vice President of Instruction at San Mateo College.
Dr. Kelly presents at conferences and has served on numerous state boards and commissions including the Non-Credit Task Force, the Basic Skills Task Force, and the Board of Directors of the Chief Instructional Officers, and served on and chaired numerous accreditation teams.
Shirley received her Doctorate of Education with emphasis in Higher Education Administration in 1983 from the University of San Francisco and received her B.A. from Mills College in Chemistry and her M.S. in Chemistry from the University of San Francisco.
Jean Malone
Dr. JEAN MALONE retired in June 2003 with 40 years in public education. A retired Vice President of Human Resources and District Chief Negotiator, Dr. Malone was instrumental in taking the Citrus Community College District through the implementation of the major reform education bill, AB 1725, in the early 1990’s. She served as the CHRO at Citrus from 1987 until her retirement.
In 1994, Dr. Malone was appointed by the Citrus Board to be the District’s Chief Negotiator after having served several years on the negotiating team. These years represent many successful contract closings, including the first contract for the newly organized adjunct faculty union. She considers herself an expert on the topic of adjunct parity compensation and has given advice and workshops on this complex subject.
Dr. Malone’s areas of expertise include: Professional Expert for Human Resources; Hearing Officer for classified disciplinary matters; Negotiations consultant and language crafter; Investigation of discrimination (including sexual harassment) claims; Workshop Presenter: CHRO/EEO, ACBO, League Annual Convention, CIO/CSSO Joint Conference, ACCCA, CCCT, AACC, and Individual Community College Districts.
