V-Anne Chernock

V-Anne Chernock PhotoV-ANNE CHERNOCK has 34 years of experience in project management, with particular expertise in the disciplines of environmental stewardship, construction management, administration, business development, marketing and operations management. Prior to becoming a Director of Modernization for school and college construction programs in 2001, she worked for several nationally recognized engineering and construction management firms with assignments nationwide. Her projects in the consulting sector included public buildings; public transportation systems (e.g., airports and rail transit); environmental remediation and related studies; and information management. She recently retired from the College of Marin, where, as Director of Modernization, she oversaw a $249.5 million bond modernization program on two campuses.

V-Anne started her career in education as a secondary teacher, with a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. In later years, as her focus shifted to consulting, she earned a master’s degree in Project and Systems Management from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, where she received the Outstanding Graduate award in her department.

In sharing her diverse areas of expertise with others over the course of her illustrious career, V-Anne has become an experienced trainer, coach and teambuilding instructor. She has led diverse teams – most recently in schools and colleges – in their efforts to improve operations, fiscal performance and customer service. Her teambuilding seminars and classes range from weekend retreats to formal military partnering.

V-Anne has coached successful presentations for major project management assignments across the country, including Los Angeles Metro, Atlanta Olympics, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and Boston/Logan International Airport. She is also a seasoned public speaker, with presentations for the Community College Facilities Coalition (CCFC), Association of Chief Business Officials (ACBO), Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH), the Community College Green Technology Summit, and the Breakfast of Champions in Oakland, among others.

Her post-retirement focus is on helping educators to better understand and respond to the complexities of capital construction.

Throughout her career, V-Anne has remained active in ancillary associations and activities ranging from the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to Rebuilding Together. She currently serves on the Joint Powers Board of the Statewide Wrap-up Insurance Program, an owner-controlled insurance program for school construction projects, and as treasurer on two non-profit boards in her home town of Novato: Sustainable Novato, dedicated to improving local sustainability, and All Saints Preschool and Children’s Center, a church-run educational center for local infants, preschoolers and elementary school children.
