Foundations

College Foundations and Development Offices are generally among the most under-optimized of college functions. They have the potential to provide significant funding streams for student financial aid, specific college programs and general college support, including freeing general revenues for other purposes. College Brain Trust (CBT) consultants will analyze the performance of your college foundation and development office, compare them with high performing units in community colleges of similar demographics and size, and recommend changes to increase performance and revenues.

CBT undertakes following steps:

  1. Financial and fundraising scan – Review the most recent five years of financial statements and fundraising activities. Learn the history and current activities of foundation.
  2. Governance Scan – Review incorporation documents, Foundation board minutes and other relevant documents, including any Board of Trustee-Foundation Agreement. Conduct a written survey of foundation board members, foundation staff and executive director, district (and college) CEO and other relevant college/district staff.
  3. Determination of Goals of District and Foundation – Call and meet with district CEO and college presidents, call and meet with Foundation Executive Director, call or meet with Foundation Board members (and other appropriate persons).
  4. Reality Check – Determine probable and potential financial investment of district, including timelines, to meet Foundation and district goals. Compare with similar districts to determine required staff and timelines to meet goals. Revisit with key players (CEO, Foundation ED, Foundation Board, etc.).
  5. Develop Implementation Plan Overview - This report will include general goals, timelines, staffing needs, responsibilities of staff and college/district personnel, Foundation board members and Board of Trustees, a multi-year budget and changes needed to current foundation procedures and policies.
