Andy Howard
Andy was one of the early developers of online education as Director of the Rio Hondo College Virtual College. He was one of the founders of the California Virtual Campus and served as Director of the Los Angeles Region, where he was responsible for assisting the expansion of online programs for 25 area community colleges. Andy started the successful hosting program for California, which provided delivery and support for online courses from more than 40 colleges throughout the state. Howard received the Chancellor’s Office Technology Award for his contributions to the integration of technology into education. Andy led Rio Hondo’s successful $245 million bond campaign and as Executive Director of Planning and Development coordinated the college’s facilities master plan and $400 million building program. He also started innovative programs such as “Go Rio,” which provided free bus passes to full-time students and recently was awarded the prestigious Bellwether Award. After retiring in 2006, Andy was asked by the college president to modernize the college foundation and expand its capacity. His current focus is a capital campaign for a $30 million high-tech health science center which will be capable of delivering nursing education on-site and through distance education. Andy is a proud graduate of East Los Angeles College. He also graduated from Whittier College and Claremont Graduate School. He received his doctorate working under the acclaimed futurist and planner R. Buckminster Fuller. |

ANDY HOWARD worked for community colleges for 38 years as an instructor and administrator. As a faculty member, he was selected Teacher of the Year four times, served more than 20 years on the Rio Hondo College Academic Senate, including two terms as President, and was on the Executive Board of Academic Senate of California Community Colleges.
