Jan Lyddon
Lyddon has directed institutional research and planning offices at both public and private universities and at community colleges in Michigan, Ohio and Texas. Through her work in institutional research and planning she has led campus wide strategic planning efforts, resulting in solid strategic plans and strategy execution systems. Jan has also been the team leader for institution-wide continuous quality improvement efforts. She frequently presents workshops and consults on development and use of balanced scorecards and dashboards as tools for leadership to achieve effective strategy execution. Jan has been a Data Coach for Achieving the Dream, a national initiative to improve student success in community colleges, from its inception in 2007. As an Achieving the Dream Data Coach, she consults five colleges in Achieving the Dream, including four in Texas and one in New England. She is particularly proud that one of them, El Paso Community College, was the recipient of the Leah Myer Austin Award for 2011. In addition, she is a Principal with Organizational Effectiveness Consultants, working with colleges and nonprofits to improve their strategic plans, strategy execution, measurement and effectiveness. As a consultant, Jan has advised colleges on the development of plans and improvement of their institutional research offices. She has also served as an interim director of institutional research. Dr. Lyddon has served as a national IPEDS trainer, is active with the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), and was one of the original officers of the statewide affiliate in Michigan. In AIR she served two terms on the Higher Education Data Policy Committee (HEDPC), and in other leadership roles. Additionally, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on organizational communication and analysis, nonprofit budget development, and public administration. Lyddon holds a B.S. from Iowa State University, M.A. from Michigan State University, M.P.A. from Western Michigan University and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. |

Dr. Lyddon’s background emphasizes policy analysis, strategic planning, and gathering, analyzing or structuring information for executive decision-making. Her career included service as a researcher at the state level in higher education in two different states, first as a Legislative Research Analyst, and later as Chief Research and Information Officer for a state coordinating board.
