Saddleback College

LogoThe College Brain Trust conducted a study and review of Student Services at the college. The current economic climate has caused California Community Colleges to assess and consider operational innovations and strategies in order to sustain a high quality of educational and student services.

Elements of the review included process and procedures, the use of technology, and the utilization and adequacy of staffing for all operations within Student Services. Also included were a comparison of the organization of Saddleback College with like-sized and demographically similar California community colleges within multi-college districts.

The consultants provided the college’s Leadership Team with a written report on Student Services of Saddleback College that included recommendations and strategies designed to improve the delivery of quality student services to current and future Saddleback College students.

The process included three phases:

Phase 1 – Information Review
Review documentation, including accreditation documents, educational master plans, strategic plans, enrollment data, program reviews, and staffing levels at Saddleback College.

Phase 2 – Campus Visitations
Consultants met with administrative leadership and all Student Services constituent groups for the purpose of observing and reviewing the operations of Student Services programs and staff. The meetings included the college leadership team and appropriate campus constituents. The consultants reviewed the programs and services of Student Services. Comparative data from like-sized and demographically similar California community colleges in a multi-college district assisted and supported the on-campus review.

Phase 3 – Delivery of the final report and recommendations
The final report provided Saddleback College with the Brain Trust’s assessment of Student Services with recommendations and strategies on how the college can improve the delivery of quality student services to current and future Saddleback College students. The written report included an assessment of the elements of Student Services processes and procedures, the use of technology, the utilization and adequacy of staffing, and use of institutional resources.

Also provided was comparative data from like-sized and demographically similar California Community Colleges within multi-college districts. In addition, the report provided recommendations for organizational innovations.
